Platypuses live in Australia. They are often found by swamps, lakes, and rivers. Platypuses sleep on land in underground homes. These homes are called burrows.
Platypuses spend a lot of time hunting. They use their bills to scoop up food. Platypuses eat insects and worms. They also eat frogs and small fish.
Most mammals give birth to live babies. But platypuses lay eggs in their burrows. Once they hatch, babies stay with their mothers until they are grown. A platypus can live for 12 years in the wild.
