Dragonflies
   
Dragonflies are insects. They lived millions of years ago, long before the dinosaurs. Today’s dragonflies are fast. Some are very big.
Dragonflies come in many colors. Some dragonflies are hairy. Dragonflies have six legs and four wings. They have two large eyes.

Dragonflies live almost everywhere on Earth. You often see them near lakes, ponds, and streams.
Dragonflies are good hunters. They catch prey easily. Dragonflies eat smaller insects, such as flies and mosquitoes.
Female dragonflies can lay hundreds to thousands of eggs. When they hatch, they live underwater for up to several years. Adult dragonflies usually only live a few weeks.
