Wolves
   
There are two species of wolves. They are gray wolves and red wolves. Wolves are powerful predators. They are known for their fearsome howl. They howl to communicate.
Wolves might look like German shepherd dogs at first sight. They have short, pointed ears. They have bushy tails. Their fur can be black or white. It might also be red or gray.

Wolves live in forests or mountains. They might also be in grasslands or in arctic areas. Wolves will go almost anywhere they can find food.
Wolves are carnivores. They eat a lot of meat. A wolf might eat up to 20 pounds (9.1 kg) at one time. Wolves mostly feed on large hoofed animals. These include deer, elk, and moose.
Wolves live in groups called packs. A pack usually has six to ten wolves. Female wolves have four to six pups. They are born in a den. Wolves can live for six to eight years.
