Sea Lions

There are six different species of sea lions. They are very smart animals. Sea lions can learn tricks and perform in shows. They can often be found performing at zoos.
A sea lion’s fur can be light brown or dark brown. It can also be reddish or black. Sea lions have long whiskers. They have flippers and a thick layer of blubber. The blubber keeps them warm.

Sea lions live on the coasts. They hunt and play in the water. Their flippers help them move around on land. Sea lions are social animals. They live in groups called colonies.
A hungry sea lion often eats fish or squid. Sea lions might also eat crabs or clams. A sea lion’s whiskers help it find food. Sea lions usually swallow their prey whole.
Baby sea lions are called pups. They are born on land. Females usually have one pup per year. They stay with their mother up to a year. A wild sea lion can live for 20 to 30 years.
