Cockroaches
   
Cockroaches are one of the oldest insects. Scientists believe they have been around for almost 400 million years. Some people keep cockroaches as pets. Cockroaches have wings. But most cockroaches never fly at all.
Cockroaches have three body parts. They are the head, the thorax, and the abdomen. Most cockroaches are dark brown or reddish brown.

Cockroaches live almost everywhere. They mostly live in places that are wet and warm. Many cockroaches live in rain forests. Some live in sewers. Some live in people’s houses.
Cockroaches will eat anything. They eat dead plants and animals. They eat garbage. They even eat animal waste. That is why they often live in dirty places.
Baby cockroaches are called nymphs. The nymphs are white and soft. As they grow, their bodies become hard and brown. Nymphs molt each time they grow.
