Toads often look like frogs. But they are not the same. Most toads cannot hop as far as frogs. Toads can live away from water. Frogs stay near water.
Toads have round bodies. Their skin is thick and bumpy. Their legs are short. Most toads are brown and green.

Toads live all over the world. They live in forests. They live in meadows. They also live in backyards.
Toads catch food with their tongues. Their tongue is sticky. It can catch insects and spiders. It can also catch worms. Toads swallow food whole.
Most toads lay their eggs in water. Tadpoles hatch from toad eggs. They look like small fish. Then they grow into toads. Their average life span is three years.
