Geckos

There are more than 1,500 species of geckos. Geckos can be many different colors and sizes. Some geckos use camouflage. Their colors blend in with their habitat. This helps them hide.
Geckos have wide eyes and a large head. Their tails can be long or short. Many species have brightly colored scales. The scales can have spots or stripes. Geckos shed their skin as they grow.

Geckos are cold-blooded. They live in climates that keep them warm. Some geckos live in deserts and grasslands. Others live in rain forests and mountains. Geckos can also be kept as pets.
Usually, geckos eat insects. They might eat crickets or beetles. Many geckos also eat the skin they have shed.
Some geckos lay eggs. Others have live babies. Geckos can live for around eight years in the wild.
