Anacondas

Anacondas are the heaviest snakes. They can weigh 450 pounds (204 kg). There are four different species of anacondas. Green anacondas and yellow anacondas are the most common.
An anaconda’s eyes are on top of its head. So are its nostrils. This helps it see and breathe in the water. Yellow anacondas are smaller than green anacondas.

Anacondas live in South America. Green anacondas live in swamps. Some live in streams. Yellow anacondas spend more time on land. They often live in trees.
Anacondas can eat anything they can swallow. They eat fish and birds. They eat mammals and reptiles. Anacondas squeeze their food to kill it. Sometimes they hold it under water.
Anacondas are born live. Most are born in the water. They can swim right away. The baby snakes shed their skin each time they grow. Anacondas live for approximately ten years.
