Octopuses

There are more than 200 kinds of octopuses. Octopuses come in all sizes. They live in the ocean. Some octopuses can blend in with their surroundings. This is to keep them safe from predators.
All octopuses have a head and eight arms. Each arm has suckers. An octopus has a beak. It is the only hard part on its body.

Octopuses live in the world’s oceans. Some live near rocky coasts. They also live in open waters. Approximately half of them live in caves or cracks in rocks. The other half live on the ocean floor.
Octopuses love to eat fish, lobsters, crabs, and clams. Octopuses kill their food with venom. They use their arms for moving and eating. Their suckers hold onto prey. The beak tears and eats food.
Most females lay eggs once. They lay between 50 and 100,000 eggs. Babies are on their own after they hatch. Baby octopuses grow fast. Octopuses can live about one to three years in the wild.
