Copperheads
   
Copperheads are poisonous snakes. They move slowly most of the time. There are five subspecies of copperheads.
Copperheads have scales. The scales are different colors. Some are pink. Others are red or brown. Copperheads do not have ears.

Copperheads live in mountains and forests. They often hide in holes. But they warm up in the sunlight.
Copperheads are meat eaters. They eat many different animals. Sometimes they eat insects. Copperheads also eat frogs, lizards, birds, and rodents.
Copperheads live approximately seven years. They usually mate when they are three or four years old. Baby copperheads grow in eggs. The eggs hatch inside females. Babies care for themselves.
