Armadillos
   
Armadillos are mammals. Humans are also mammals. Armadillos have a shell. No other mammal in the United States has a shell.
Armadillos have a hard shell. The shells protect them. Armadillos are brown or gray. They have long tails.

Armadillos are in North America. They are also in South America. Armadillos live in warm places. They are often found in savannas or forests.
Armadillos sometimes eat plants. But they mostly eat insects. They smell insects underground. They then use their claws to dig. Their long tongues lick up the bugs.
Baby armadillos are called pups. Mothers raise pups for one year. Armadillos live for 12 to 15 years.
