Hawks

Hawks are raptors. They are very good hunters. Hawks eat birds and other small animals. There are more than 45 different kinds of hawks.
Hawks have curved beaks and sharp talons. Their large eyes can be red, yellow, or hazel. They have long tails and short, round wings. These help them stop and turn very quickly.

Hawks live all over the world. Many hawks live in forests. All hawks build nests. Some build nests in trees or on cliffs. Some build nests on the ground. Most hawks migrate.
Hawks hide and watch for prey. When they see it, they fly very fast. They grab their prey with their sharp talons. Then they tear it apart to kill it.
Female hawks lay eggs in nests. The parents bring back food while the chicks learn to fly and hunt. Most adult hawks live alone. Hawks usually live one to two years in the wild.
