Snails have a strong tail called a foot. They use it to move or swim. Most snails have tentacles on their heads. Their eyes are often at the top of the tentacles.

Some snails live on land. Others live in the ocean. Snails might also live in freshwater. Many snails rest in wet places during the day. Most snails hibernate in their shells during the winter.
Snails Most snails eat plants. Some eat animal waste. A few snails eat meat. Snails have a rough tongue. It is called a radula. They use it to scrape pieces off their food to eat.
Snails lay eggs. Some hatch into larvae that swim in water. Others look like adults right away. Snails can live for up to 10 years, depending on the species.
