Ants

Ants are insects. Ants live together in a group called a colony. Each ant has an important job to do in the colony. The three main members of the colony are the queen, female workers, and males.
Most ants are black, red, and brown. Ants have three main body parts. They are the head, thorax, and the abdomen. Ants have two antennae and six legs. Some ants have wings.

Ants live almost everywhere on Earth. Most ants live in nests in the ground.
Ants protect plants by eating other insects. Their underground homes also keep the soil healthy.
A queen ant can live for many years. In that time, she will lay millions of eggs. Once the eggs hatch, the worker ants collect food and maintain the nest. Some ants live only a few weeks. Others might live several years.
