Bison
   
Bison are large mammals. They have very big heads. There are two kinds of bison. American bison live in North America. European bison live in Europe.
Bison have a bump on their backs. The bump is near their shoulders. It is called a hump. Bison have hooves. Their fur is brown. It is longer near the front of their bodies.

Most American bison live on plains. Others live near trees. European bison live in forests. Bison used to live many places. Now much of their habitat is gone.
Bison mostly eat grass. They also eat leaves. Sometimes they eat twigs. They graze during the day. Bison migrate in the winter. They walk in a line to find food.
Female bison have one baby at a time. They care for their calf for up to one year. Bison live in groups called bands. They live for up to 20 years in the wild.
