Cardinals
   
Cardinals are songbirds. They sing near their mates. Cardinals are also called redbirds. They are social.
Cardinals have a crest. A crest is feathers that stick up on their heads. Male cardinals are red. Females are brown. Both have black feathers around their beaks.

Cardinals like bushes. They also like trees and shrubs. Some cardinals live in rural areas. Others live in cities. They can live in cold weather.
Cardinals eat seeds. They also eat berries and fruit. Cardinals sometimes eat insects too.
Female cardinals lay three or four eggs at once. They care for their babies. Cardinals live an average of 15 years.
