Chameleons
   
There are approximately 160 different types of chameleons. Some chameleons can change their skin color. Chameleons are reptiles. All reptiles have scales. Reptiles are also cold-blooded.
Most chameleons are brightly colored. They can be as small as a penny. Others are as big as cats. Chameleons have curled tails. They wrap their tails around branches. That keeps them safe.

Chameleons live in Africa, Asia, and southern Europe. You can find them in jungles and deserts. Chameleons can look two different ways at once. They look for food and danger in their habitats.
Chameleons often eat berries, leaves, and insects. Chameleons’ tongues are amazing. The tongues can be as long as their bodies. Chameleons use them to catch live food.
Most chameleons lay eggs. Young chameleons are on their own after they hatch. It is unknown how long chameleons can live in the wild. They can live more than ten years in zoos.
