Cobras
   
Cobras are poisonous snakes. They have loose skin on their necks. The skin is called a hood. Cobras can spread this hood. They do this when they sense danger.
Cobras have short fangs. Some cobras can spray venom from their fangs. King cobras are the longest poisonous snakes. They can be 18 feet (5.5 m) long!

Cobras live in many different places. They live in warm areas. Some live on rocky hills. African tree cobras can use their tails to climb trees.
Cobras bite their prey with their fangs. Their venom kills or stuns the prey. Cobras eat many different animals. They eat rodents. They eat amphibians. They also eat birds, lizards, and other snakes.
Most kinds of cobras lay eggs. They guard the eggs until they hatch. Baby cobras can live on their own. Most cobras live for approximately 25 years.
