Coyotes
   
Coyotes are mammals. They are related to dogs. Coyotes sometimes live alone. Other coyotes stay in packs. A pack protects its home range.
Coyotes have thick fur. The fur can be brown or red. It can also be black or gray. Coyotes have pointy ears. They have bushy tails.

Coyotes live in North America. They can be found in many habitats. Coyotes live everywhere from forests to deserts.
Coyotes are mostly carnivores. They will eat anything they can catch. Small rabbits and chipmunks are easy prey. Coyotes also eat fruit such as berries and melons.
Female coyotes have four to seven pups. They give birth in dens. Mothers raise pups for several months. Some pups stay with the pack. Others go off on their own. Coyotes live six to eight years in the wild.
