Giraffes

Giraffes are large mammals. They are known for their long necks and legs. Male giraffes can grow more than 18 feet (5.5 m) tall.
Giraffes have large eyes and ears. They also have two short knobs on their heads. Their fur has brown patches. Tan or white lines separate the patches. No two giraffes have exactly the same pattern.

Giraffes live in Africa. They live in dry, open areas. These include savannas and woodlands.
Giraffes can reach food high in trees. They eat leaves, twigs, and fruit. They get their food with their long tongues. Their tongues have muscles that allow them to grab and hold objects.
Giraffes live in herds. A baby giraffe is called a calf. Giraffes live on their own after one or two years. They can live up to 25 years in the wild.
