Lobsters are crustaceans. They have powerful pinching claws. Lobsters also have exoskeletons. When a lobster grows, it sheds its exoskeleton. Then it grows a new one. There are many species of lobsters.
All lobsters have eight long legs. They use these legs to walk. Lobsters also have ten shorter legs. They use these short legs to swim. Lobsters come in many colors. They have four antennae.

Lobsters live in shallow and deep ocean waters. They live on the ocean floor near sand, rocks, and mud. Lobsters often dig holes to live in. Some live in holes in rocks. Some hide in sea grasses.
Lobsters mostly eat live animals. They usually eat fish, clams, and mussels. They also eat starfish and sea urchins. Some lobsters eat seaweed.
Female lobsters lay eggs. They carry the eggs with their shorter legs for up to a year. When the eggs hatch, the baby lobsters float near the water’s surface. Lobsters can live for 50 years in the wild.
