Musk Oxen
   
Musk oxen are mammals. They have long, thick hair. One layer of hair is long. It protects them from the weather. The other layer is short. It keeps them warm.
Musk oxen have dark brown hair. The hair is long. It almost touches their feet. Musk oxen have short legs. They have curved horns. Their heads are large.

Musk oxen live in the arctic tundra. It is very cold there. Musk oxen graze during the summer. They build up fat. This helps them live through the winter.
Musk oxen eat roots and moss. They also eat lichen. In the summer, they eat grass. In the winter, they dig through snow with their hooves to get to plants.
Baby musk oxen are called calves. They can stand and nurse soon after they are born. Musk oxen live in herds. They can live for 12 to 20 years in the wild.
