Pumas

Pumas are sometimes called mountain lions or cougars. They are big cats. However, pumas actually have more things in common with small cats. Instead of roaring, pumas hiss, growl, and whistle.
Pumas often have light brown fur with no markings. Some pumas can be grayish or reddish. Pumas have large eyes and upright ears. They have big paws and strong legs.

Pumas live in North and South America. Mountains are good places to find pumas. Their thick fur keeps them warm.
Pumas are meat eaters. They pounce to catch their prey. Pumas mainly eat small mammals.
Baby pumas are called cubs. Cubs are born with spots on their fur. These spots help mothers hide their cubs in their habitats. Cubs leave their mothers at two years old. Pumas can live up to 20 years in the wild.
