Squirrels
   
Squirrels are a type of rodent. Chipmunks, beavers, and rats are also rodents. There are many kinds of squirrels. Some live in trees. Others spend their time on the ground.
Squirrels come in many colors and sizes. They have big eyes. Their front teeth are large. Squirrels are known for their long, bushy tails.

Squirrels are found on five continents. They do not live in Australia or Antarctica. They live in many habitats. They are in grasslands and forests. They are also in arctic areas.
Squirrels forage for food. They eat some. They store the rest for winter. Squirrels mostly eat nuts, seeds, and grains. They sometimes eat eggs and insects. They even eat people food.
Baby squirrels are born in a nest or tree hole. Babies are very tiny. They stay with their mother for 10 to 12 weeks. Squirrels can live up to 14 years in the wild.
