Tiger Sharks

Tiger sharks are the fourth largest kind of shark. All sharks are fish. Many tiger sharks have markings. These markings look like tiger stripes. This is how tiger sharks get their name.
Tiger sharks are grayish brown. They have square heads. They have large mouths. Their undersides are white or light yellow. A tiger shark’s stripes fade as it ages.

Tiger sharks live near all continents except Antarctica. They often live in shallow waters near the coast. They also swim out to the deep ocean waters.
Tiger sharks are predators. They eat stingrays, seals, and dolphins. They eat turtles and crustaceans. They even eat smaller sharks. Tiger sharks hunt at night. They often go closer to shore to feed.
Tiger shark eggs hatch inside the mother sharks. The baby sharks stay inside the mother and grow. Then they are born live. Baby sharks are called pups. Tiger sharks can live for 40 years.
